About

ABOUT ME

Hi friends! My name is Rachel and I am a book lover, bookstore owner, and freelance editor. I am spellbound by the art of storytelling and have built my life around books. I thrive on discovering the big picture and impact of a story, and I would love the opportunity to work with you as you develop your storytelling skills beyond the basics of writing.

I began my editorial journey during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering beta reads on Fiverr.com for just $5 a read. Over the last five years I have developed my skills in providing feedback to authors through training and experience. I now offer a wide variety of services up to full developmental edits.

In 2024 I opened my bookstore, The Book & Bottle Shop, and left my corporate job. Now I get to spend my days running a bookstore and working with authors to build new amazing works of storytelling!

What more could a book lover dream of?

what does a developmental editor do?

Transform your work-in-progress to a true piece of art.

A developmental editor steps into the gap that exists between self-edits and the finalization process of copy editing and line editing. "Dev Editors" often become a partner in the writing process, helping you find places where the story in your mind does not translate well to the page, and challenging you to delve deeper into your own work. A developmental edit happens before the detailed work of editing for consistency and grammar.

Focusing on the structure, content, and organization of a manuscript, developmental editors evaluate characterization, plotting, pacing, themes, and narrative. They can offer suggestions for rewrites to strengthen the impact of the work, or help build bridges between weak sections. Ultimately, they help you create a plan to tackle rewrites with deliverables to keep you on track.

“Having Rachel as my developmental editor was a helpful experience. I was unsure who to look for and where for my first novel project. I had a good stroke of luck when I found her as quick as I did.”
